Mariezkurrena banned for two matches after red card in Ceuta | OneFootball

Arkaitz Mariezkurrena has been handed a two-match ban after his direct red card in the 33rd minute against Ceuta. He will miss Sanse’s games at home to Granada and away to Celta Fortuna.

According to Diario Vasco, the RFEF disciplinary committee imposed the suspension and did not list its decision under its special resolutions, which would usually carry a fuller explanation. The body may have considered Real Sociedad’s submissions, although this is not stated.

The committee classified the incident as violent conduct off the ball with play stopped, rather than the referee’s account of a kick with excessive force while the ball was not in dispute. That wording appears, in light of video footage, to contradict Daniel Miranda Bolaño’s claim of excessive force.

As a result, Mariezkurrena avoids a potential four-match suspension for aggression under Article 103. Even so, neither Real Sociedad nor the player can be satisfied, as the footage suggests there were no grounds for dismissal and therefore no suspension.

The club now has the right to appeal to the Appeals Committee.

Separately, Ceuta fitness coach Antonio Pasamar Hernández has also been suspended for two matches. He was dismissed for directing a gross insult at an opponent, and the committee cited the provision covering insults, offences, threats or provocation, with ancillary fines.
