Pablo Marín has transformed his standing at Real Sociedad, emerging as a pivotal figure for Pellegrino Matarazzo. The Riojan has capitalised on absences in attack to show striking versatility, excelling from the left flank despite being a natural midfielder. His intelligence and quality have moved him beyond a simple rotation role.

Under Sergio Francisco, who led the side until December, Marín began the league campaign prominently, completing 90 minutes in the first two matches. As the autumn wore on his involvement tailed off to brief cameos. As reported by AS, that pattern shifted following the change in the dugout.

With Matarazzo in charge, the academy graduate has moved from occasional option to regular starter. His playing time has risen by 65 percent compared with the final stretch of the previous regime, operating as a false winger on the left and stepping up amid the absences of Barrenetxea, Kubo and Zakharyan.

The club underlined that progress on 30 January by extending Marín’s contract to 30 June 2029. He has been handed the number 15 shirt, having previously worn 28, marking his full integration into the senior squad.

Matarazzo has praised the player’s maturity, noting he looks for solutions rather than dwelling on injuries and that Marín is performing at a very high level. The American coach values his tactical balance and left-sided depth, qualities that have earned the staff’s complete trust.
