Mark van Bommel and Marc Overmars convince Hertha Berlin’s Jurgen Ekkelenkamp to reject Club Brugge for Antwerp | OneFootball

Hertha Berlin’s Jurgen Ekkelenkamp has rejected Club Brugge to instead join Antwerp, with Mark van Bommel and Marc Overmars convincing him to do so.

It emerged at the end of June that the two Belgian clubs were both interested in signing the Dutch midfielder, and it looked like Club Brugge would be the ones to get him when De Telegraaf reported that they agreed a deal of around €5 million with Hertha Berlin.

However, the former Ajax man has now rejected the reigning Pro League champions as he’d prefer to sign for Antwerp instead.

According to his agent, Mo Sinouh, the 22-year-old did so because of his compatriots, the club’s new manager, Van Bommel, and the new Director of Football, Overmars.

“There was an agreement between Hertha and Club Brugge, but on his feelings, Jurgen chose Antwerp, who then also [reached a deal] with Hertha BSC,” Sinouh told De Telegraaf.
