There is the chance to break back into the top spots, as Napoli were beaten 1-0 by Torino earlier this evening, their second defeat in three rounds.

“It is only Week 7, so there is a long way to go. The important thing is to find some consistency in performances, so I feel Inter are doing well, and I am optimistic we can impress against a strong Roma side who deserve to currently be top of the table,” Marotta told Sky Sport Italia.

Marcus Thuram, Matteo Darmian and Raffaele Di Gennaro are out of action, so Ange-Yoan Bonny has been chosen to lead the attack with Lautaro Martinez.

A positive week for Inter off the field

Inter ran at a profit for the first time in years, even if they still have huge debts to pay off, and a lot of that is thanks to reaching two Champions League Finals in three years.

The President was therefore asked if there was a specific target that the club had set for their Champions League progress this season.

“We created a model for sporting objectives, but must also focus on economic sustainability. Competing in a tournament like the Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup obviously helped us financially,” added Marotta.

“The European scenario gives us greater revenue than Italian results, that is no secret, but we must try to go as far as possible and do our best in every competition that we participate in. It’s difficult to guess how far we will go this season in Europe, especially with the new format, where it is all up for grabs.

“We aim to achieve the maximum results both on the field and off it.”
