As of seven August, Olympique de Marseille and Athletic Club are the only clubs across Europe’s Big Five leagues yet to make a signing this summer.

According to L'Équipe, Marseille, hampered by financial constraints, have not added any player since the window opened, whether via a purchase, an option exercised or a loan.

No other Ligue 1 side is in the same position.

Athletic’s situation is different, the Bilbao club traditionally sign very few players as they rely solely on footballers who are Basque, of Basque descent or developed in the region.

Elsewhere in Europe this summer, only purchase options have been activated at three clubs, Rayo Vallecano for Nobel Mendy, Real Sociedad for Kazanuri Kita who had already featured for their B team last year, and Napoli for Rasmus Hojlund and Alisson Santos.

Marseille have, for now, confirmed the sales of Mason Greenwood and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, allowed Bilal Nadir to leave at the end of his contract, and loaned Hamad Traoré to Genoa with an option to buy set at eight million euros.

Bruno Genesio’s side are thought to be preparing further exits, notably Gerónimo Rulli and Facundo Medina.
