Struggling Marseille will leave La Commanderie for a week-long camp in Marbella from Monday to Friday, aiming to reset ahead of key fixtures, after a weekend stop in Marseille.
According to L'ÉEquipe, the trip was among Habib Beye’s first decisions with the board and feels more pertinent after the latest setback in Brittany. It recalls a Spanish retreat under Igor Tudor in December 2022 during the World Cup and two stays in Rome last spring under Roberto De Zerbi, which helped the squad bond away from an atmosphere at the training ground deemed harmful by executives.
Beye said the answers must come from their week of work. He wants to ease the pressure, get to know his players better in a different setting and encourage them to play with greater freedom.
Goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli admitted confidence has been lost within the group and he hopes time in Spain will help them find solutions. Marseille return to the Vélodrome to face Lyon in Ligue 1 on the first of March, then host Toulouse in the Coupe de France quarter-final on the fourth of March.
Tactically, Beye hinted at a new shape after trying 4-3-3, 4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1 during the defeat in Brest. A back three is a real option with captain Leonardo Balerdi available again after suspension. Beye believes he has the personnel to adjust both system and approach to better fit his squad’s profiles.
