According to a report from L’Équipe, Olympique de Marseille are hesitant to make Ismaël Bennacer’s (27) loan move from AC Milan permanent. The French outlet explains that the midfielder’s wage demands are high and would put him in the bracket of an undisputed starter, a status which he lost in recent months.
After playing the full ninety minutes in the 3-2 victory over Toulouse FC on the 6th of April, Bennacer saw his gametime significantly reduced. He became only an option from the bench for the next three games before playing the first half against Lille OSC.
For the penultimate fixture of the season against Le Havre AC, he was out of the squad with a groin injury, and was then back in the starting lineup for the final game, where Marseille defeated Stade Rennais 4-2.
For a player who was expected to be one of the first names on the teamsheet when he joined during the winter transfer loan, it’s clear that it has been a mixed spell in the south of France.
