Olympique de Marseille have reached an agreement in principle with Real Sociedad for Nayef Aguerd to return on an initial loan with an option to buy, Foot Mercato reports.
Talks accelerated on Friday evening after the Basque side moved to bring back the Morocco international, who spent the 2024/25 campaign on loan in San Sebastián.
The 30-year-old is understood to have swiftly approved the switch, attracted by familiar surroundings and the prospect of Europa League football under Pellegrino Matarazzo.
Aguerd only joined Marseille permanently last summer for around €23m, yet he is among the players the club are prepared to sacrifice to trim the wage bill and raise funds in this window.
Al-Sadd showed concrete interest and Rennes explored a return before a €15m release clause expired at the end of July, but Real Sociedad are now in pole position.
His expected exit comes amid a broader squad reshuffle at Marseille. Facundo Medina is nearing a €25m move to Bayer Leverkusen, while goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli is also anticipated to leave the Vélodrome this summer.
