He’s been on the Olympique de Marseille radar for a few years now, and a move for Amine Adli (25) could be back on the table.

On Wednesday, L’Équipe reported that the Ligue 1 side were in early discussions with Bayer Leverkusen for the French-born attacking midfielder.

The Morocco international seemingly expressed his desire to leave for a new project back on July 4th when he said: “After four years and so many emotions, I think it’s normal to ask about your future. I know what I want to do. Should I go or not, discover something else? It is legitimate to ask these questions, especially as a new cycle has started.”

Born in Béziers, France, Adli caught the attention of Marseille in the early stages of his senior career, while featuring for Toulouse FC. In the 2020-21 campaign, he helped them reach the Ligue 2 playoffs and was voted the Player of the Season in that competition.

Instead of moving to a bigger club in France, though, Adli wound up signing a five-year contract for Leverkusen in late August 2021. He’s made over 20 league appearances for them in each of the past four seasons, scoring a combined 14 goals domestically over that period.

He was a part of the team that claimed the Bundesliga title in 2023-24, going undefeated domestically in that campaign. Xabi Alonso’s men also lifted the German Cup that season, thanks in large part to Adli’s contributions, as he was that competition’s top goalscorer (five).

Internationally, he has earned 15 caps for the Moroccan senior side, scoring one goal in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying victory over Liberia (3-0).

Marseille are not the only top-flight side interested in the 25-year-old, as Premier League clubs Wolverhampton Wanderers and AFC Sunderland have expressed interest in signing him as well, as per L’Équipe.

Adli is under contract with Der Werkself until 2028.
