The Foxes boss was far from pleased with his side's display against the Red Dragons

Leicester City boss Marti Cifuentes was far from pleased with his side's overall showing in Tuesday's 1-1 draw with Wrexham at the King Power Stadium, describing his players' overall performance as "a bit arrogant" after yet another stalemate.

Since the turn of the September international break, the Foxes have been involved in four successive draws against Oxford United, Coventry City, West Bromwich Albion and now the Red Dragons, leaving supporters and the Spaniard bemoaning a distinct lack of cut and thrust in their play as they look to make an immediate return to the Premier League.

After leaving it late to salvage a point at The Hawthorns on Friday night, Rennes loanee Jordan James opened his account for the East Midlands side with a well-taken finish on 36 minutes, rounding off a 13-pass move for the hosts before the tide completely turned in the second period.

As such, the Blues could have very little complaints when Phil Parkinson's side eventually found their leveller with 13 minutes left on the clock as Nathan Broadhead scored his first league goal for Wrexham following his high-profile summer move from newly-relegated Ipswich Town.

Despite having such strength-in-depth at his disposal, Cifuentes has since joined the Leicester faithful in being rather critical when analysing facets of his side's performances, which have seen them miss out on important early-season victories as the likes of Middlesbrough continue to set the pace when it comes to potentially sustaining a bid for automatic promotion.

In an attempt to record a first victory since August 29th, Cifuentes oversaw a controlled first-half performance from his side in terms of possession and the shot count, although the only effort on target would ironically be James' first for the club since joining on loan.

After limiting Wrexham to no clear-cut chances before the interval, it would also be the visitors' only shot on target across the 90 minutes that found its way past Jakub Stolarczyk, although Cifuentes' side had clearly lost any control they had in and out of possession before the Welsh international's late equaliser.

Despite the stats pointing towards a low-quality affair, the City boss believed that Parkinson's side were well worthy of a share of the spoils whilst remaining critical of his players, as well as his own decision-making on the touchline.

“I’m definitely very disappointed because today I have a feeling we threw away two points,” he said. “It’s all respect to Wrexham, they got what they deserved.

“We started the game very well. We had a good 45 minutes and scored a good goal and had good control. Perhaps the only chance they created was our own mistake.

“We spoke in the half-time about the need to keep pushing. There is no reality in this league about being absolutely dominant for 95 minutes. We need to keep improving to get there, to achieve this level of dominance. We need to score three or four goals.

“We spoke about the need to keep pushing but unfortunately in the second half we slowly started to drop. My honest assessment is that we were a bit arrogant. We thought the game was totally under control," Cifuentes stated.

Leicester City have the firepower to kill teams off in the Championship

As Cifuentes, and many others would reference, the Foxes still have a strong pool of individuals capable of killing off games or, at the very least, seeing them through despite a major squad overhaul.

In their opening eight matches, the Spaniard's side rank second for the average percentage of possession enjoyed in games (58.3%), yet that doesn't always translate into control over each individual game.

The East Midlands side missed a handful of gilt-edged chances against West Brom on Friday night, yet were unable to even generate the chance to rectify their recent goalscoring woes in midweek.

Despite having the experienced figures of Jordan Ayew and Patson Daka alongside the likes of James, Stephy Mavididi, Abdul Fatawu and the highly-rated Jeremy Monga, Leicester have only averaged 1.3 goals-per-game thus far, which is a figure that needs to drastically improve if they are to achieve a first-time promotion.

A return of 13 points from 24 is still extremely respectable, especially when taking into account the fact that the leaders are only five points in front. However, such a gap could extend in time if Cifuentes doesn't see a marked improvement in terms of dominance and reducing the complacency his side have allowed to creep in over recent weeks.
