Marti Cifuentes has been sacked by Leicester City after six months, with the Foxes in the Championship's bottom half. His final game was Saturday's 2-1 home defeat by Oxford, their 11th league loss in 29 under the Spaniard.
In a statement, chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha called it a difficult decision, thanked Cifuentes for his commitment, and said he believes the move is in the club's best interests to improve performances and results.
Leicester are 14th, six points off the play-offs. They have managed back-to-back league wins only twice, and their longest unbeaten run, from late August to mid October, was eight games with five draws. They are 13 places and 31 points worse off than Enzo Maresca's title winners at this stage last season.
They sit nine points above the bottom three, yet a potential points penalty for alleged 2023-24 spending breaches leaves their true standing uncertain. Leicester are now seeking a sixth permanent manager since Brendan Rodgers was dismissed in April 2023.
First team coach Andy King will take interim charge pending a permanent appointment. The next Championship match is at home to Charlton Athletic on Saturday.
Cifuentes arrived from QPR in July tasked with leading a return to the Premier League. After relegation, Jamie Vardy was among those to depart and no funds were made available to buy a replacement forward, with Leicester making no paid permanent signings and leaning on loans and a free transfer.
