Bolívar’s spearhead Martín Cauteruccio, 39, underlined his threat by scoring in the 3-2 first-leg win over Grêmio in La Paz.

According to Globo.com, the Uruguayan produced a career-best 2024 at Sporting Cristal, hitting 39 goals in 31 matches and earning a reputation as a hat-trick king.

He ended 2024 as the world’s third top scorer, his 39 equalling Harry Kane’s but in 31 rather than 43 games, and finishing just one behind Robert Lewandowski.

Lewandowski placed second across 52 outings for Barcelona, while Viktor Gyökeres led the year with 52 in 56 for Sporting Lisboa. Cauteruccio was the only player in the top 10 to average better than a goal a game, at 1.26.

Collectively it was mixed. Sporting Cristal exited the Libertadores preliminaries to Always Ready, 7-4 on aggregate, with all the Peruvian side’s goals scored by Cauteruccio. They were runners-up in the league, three points behind Universitario.

He finished as Peru’s top scorer with 35 in 29, 16 clear of second, delivering six hat-tricks and one four-goal haul. He moved to Bolívar in mid-2025 and closed that year on 28 goals from 49 appearances across both clubs.

This season he has nine in 13. In the Libertadores groups he was a substitute in both matches against Fluminense and scored only once, in defeat to Independiente Rivadavia, which eliminated Bolívar and set up their Sudamericana tie with Grêmio.
