‘Why don’t you stay, just a little bit longer?’ is a view that has been expressed by Celtic supporters on social media over the past few weeks as Martin O’Neill’s time as interim Celtic manager was set to come to an end at Easter Road this afternoon.

Everyone thought that was the case, including Martin O’Neill who said so on Friday afternoon in interviews with Sky Sports and in his pre-match media conference. And the Celtic support got ready to say thank you and goodbye to Martin at today’s match.

However Martin O’Neill has told Sky Sports this morning that he received a call last night from a Celtic Board member to advise that the Wilfried Nancy deal has not yet been totally finalised and that could now take just a little bit longer so Martin is now looking at taking the team on Wednesday night for the Scottish Premiership match against Dundee at Celtic Park.

That will give the Celtic home support a chance to say a proper goodbye to the legendary Celt who has enhanced his reputation further and showed a new generation of Celtic supporters just how special he was as Celtic boss from 2000 to 2005.

So today is NOT Martin’s last match but he’ll get the acclaim anyway from the travelling Celtic support and will be looking for the three points before calling it a day in an appropriate fashion, under the lights at Paradise with 60,000 Celtic fans cheering him and signing his name.
