Massimo Luongo has taken to Instagram to share a message with Ipswich Town’s supporters after sealing a return to the club.

After leaving Sheffield Wednesday following the conclusion of the previous term, the midfielder was signed by Middlesbrough in September.

Luongo failed to make a competitive appearance for Boro during his time at the club and had his contract cancelled by the Championship outfit in order to facilitate a move to Portman Road.

The Australian international previously featured for Ipswich in 2012.

Signed on a temporary deal from Tottenham Hotspur, Luongo went on to make 11 appearances for the Blues before returning to the Premier League side.

Having now returned to Ipswich, the midfielder’s goal will be to help the club secure automatic promotion to the Championship.

The Blues are currently third in the League One standings and are set to take on leaders Plymouth Argyle on January 14th.

Instagram that he was excited to be back at the club.

The Verdict

This may turn out to be a shrewd bit of business by Ipswich if Luongo is able to hit the ground running in League One.

The 30-year-old demonstrated during the previous campaign that he is still more than capable of delivering the goods at this level.

In the 27 League One games that he participated in for Sheffield Wednesday, Luongo made 3.3 tackles, completed an average of 46.2 passes and won 2.3 aerial duels per fixture.

Having recorded an impressive average WhoScored match of 7.15 in an Owls shirt in this particular division, it would not be at all surprising if Luongo eventually establishes himself as a key player for Ipswich.

Luongo’s arrival may also force the likes of Lee Evans, Sam Morsy and Cameron Humphreys to reach new heights in terms of their performance levels which in turn could have a positive impact on the Blues’ fortunes.
