Massive blow for Liverpool, Real Madrid given green light to steal star

Liverpool heave been dealt a real blow. Real Madrid now have a golden opportunity to steal an enormous talent from the Reds' clutches.

Liverpool cannot escape Real Madrid in the transfer market and it's reached comical levels, quite honestly. The most blatant example is with the Reds' own players, of course.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konate have both gone there in the last two summers. Real Madrid are now linked with Virgil van Dijk, too, as his contract gets ready to expire next year.

But it's even in players Liverpool want to sign that they run into Los Blancos. Half of Real Madrid's squad was at one point (usually first) linked with a move to Anfield. The hype around a player will invariably get out of hand and then they swoop in to sign them.

We saw it just this summer with Yan Diomande, in fact. Liverpool's primary target once again ended up at Real Madrid. Such is life.

And now it looks set to happen all over again.

Real Madrid want Gilberto Mora

Football Insider claims Liverpool and Real Madrid are two of the club pushing to sign Gilberto Mora. The 17-year-old is one of the most in-demand talents in world football right now, having burst onto the international scene at the World Cup.

. He looks like the real deal - but it seems the Reds will miss out once again.

The report from FI suggests that Mora has a preference for moving to Spain, putting Real Madrid in the driver's seat. Admittedly, that one does make sense given the language barrier, let alone the climate issue.

Liverpool, then, will have to work hard if they're to sign Mora. Making it extra difficult is the lack of an obvious pathway. The Reds have Florian Wirtz as their no.10, a player who still isn't particularly old.

They've also clinched a deal for Samuel Martinez, who plays the same position and will have received guarantees over opportunities at Liverpool. Signing Mora would threaten those, even if the Mexico star is unlikely to go into an academy team.

This does feel like a blow, then. Liverpool's best chance of signing Mora was for them to be more gung-ho than the rest of Europe's elite clubs. That isn't the case, though, and his hype continues to grow and draw further interest.
