Pellegrino Matarazzo set out a simple plan, to be delivered with intensity and ambition, before Real Sociedad’s trip to Elche. According to Diario Vasco, he reviewed fitness, defensive gains and key names.
La Real go again immediately after Thursday’s demanding game with Celta, a night that left legs heavy, though the coach said there were positives to take.
On captain Mikel Oyarzabal, who completed 90 minutes against Celta, Matarazzo downplayed fatigue. He detailed a managed ramp-up from 30 to 45 to 60 minutes before that, said the forward has had four days’ rest and that around 72 hours are typically required, with workloads tightly tracked.
He hailed progress without the ball, saying the team concede few chances. Excluding the Real Madrid game, he noted they have let in only two goals in three.
He does not want attacking bite to suffer, stressing that more chances can be created, that the last outing lacked precision, and that against low blocks speed, accuracy and runs are essential.
Matarazzo urged patience for Arsen Zakharyan. He said the use of Héctor or Mamadou depends on game state, had La Real led against Celta it would have been Mamadou, if they had conceded it would have been Héctor. He backed Take Kubo as a difference-maker even short of top form and expects progress this season.
He warned Elche remain attack-minded with movements that complicate the press, and said the key is applying a simple plan with intensity and ambition at Martínez Valero.
