Matheus Bidu’s early strike could not spare Corinthians in a 2-1 home defeat to Chapecoense. The goal lifted him in the club’s 2026 scoring chart and put him among the top five goalscoring left-backs in their history.
According to Meu Timao, Bidu’s finish carried statistical significance for the club.
Bidu scored after two minutes, converting after Rodrigo Garro’s free-kick was swung into the box. An aerial tussle between the defence and Gustavo Henrique left a loose ball for the left-back to finish.
It was his third goal of 2026, moving him clear of the two-goal group and level with Raniele and Garro in fifth place on the season list. It also took him to 11 goals for Corinthians, overtaking Cláudio Mineiro and drawing level with Gustavo Nery among the club’s most prolific left-backs.
The turnaround by the league’s bottom side sealed Corinthians’ fourth straight Brasileiro defeat, leaving them 11th on 32 points. Fernando Diniz’s side now visit Estudiantes in La Plata in the Libertadores quarter-final first leg on Wednesday at 21:30, at Estadio Jorge Luis Hirschi.
