Matheus Bidu scored in Corinthians’ 2-0 win over Red Bull Bragantino on Thursday, then heard supporters urge a Brazil call-up to Carlo Ancelotti’s list. According to Globo.com, the left-back was named player of the match at Neo Química Arena.
He described the Seleção as both a dream and an objective, admitted he will not hide that ambition, and said he is working hard in the hope of living it one day.
Aged 26, Bidu has never been called at any level. His first major impression came at the 2019 Copa São Paulo with Guarani, who reached the semi-finals before losing to eventual champions São Paulo.
From Campinas he moved to Cruzeiro, then to Corinthians, where he was once last choice and was not even registered for the 2024 Campeonato Paulista. From the second half of the season in which he almost left, he became a key attacking outlet alongside Rodrigo Garro, Breno Bidon, Matheuzinho and Memphis Depay.
Coach Dorival Júnior said Bidu was third in the position when he arrived and has stood out since last year, stressing that collective work has underpinned players’ growth.
Defender Gabriel Paulista added that Bidu deserves a Seleção chance, noting his improvement last year and consistency during a difficult campaign.
For Corinthians, Bidu has made 130 appearances, with nine goals and eight assists. He started and impressed in recent runs that delivered the Campeonato Paulista, Copa do Brasil and Supercopa Rei titles.
