According to Coluna Do Fla, Matheus Cunha signed for Cruzeiro at the start of this season after leaving Flamengo. The goalkeeper now aims to claim the starting berth with Cássio sidelined long term.

Cássio left the Maracanã pitch early in the second half of Flamengo’s meeting with Cruzeiro after feeling pain in his left knee. Subsequent tests revealed a multiligament injury.

He will undergo surgery led by Cruzeiro’s head of medical, Dr Sérgio Campolina, at Hospital Orizonti, meaning he is only due back in 2027.

Under Filipe Luís at Flamengo he saw very little action, featuring in only five matches in 2025. That shortage of minutes prompted his departure.

Flamengo currently have three goalkeepers, Rossi, Andrew and Dyogo Alves, so they have not lacked cover since his move.
