According to Globo.com, goalkeeper Hugo Souza, right-back Matheuzinho and midfielder Breno Bidon celebrated their Brazil call-ups on Wednesday while in La Plata for Corinthians’ Conmebol Libertadores quarter-final first leg against Estudiantes, scheduled for 21:30 Brasília time.
The veteran Souza said beginning a fresh cycle towards the next World Cup and Copa América felt like a first time, and he was even happier for his team-mates. He joked he would film the pair’s rookie initiation.
Bidon, 21, received his maiden senior call having represented Brazil at youth level, and described it as an honour. He said he had never imagined this moment and would keep fighting.
Matheuzinho was also called for the first time, saying it was a huge joy. He hopes strong performances for Corinthians can make this the first of many selections.
The trio will be with Brazil for friendlies against Australia, first on 25 September at Queensland Country Bank Stadium in Townsville, then on 29 September at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. They will then face India on three October in Kolkata.
