Matias Vecino is close to leaving Lazio for Celta Vigo on deadline day. According to The Laziali, the clubs have an agreement to release him five months early. The 34-year-old is set to travel to Spain.

Vecino joined from Inter Milan in summer 2022. His stay was extended at the end of last season on a one-year deal with an option for a second, yet an underwhelming first half has the parties seemingly ready to split.

Celta Vigo made their approach on Sunday. A move would end more than 12 years of the Uruguayan’s career in Italian football.

The report added that Vecino’s exit would directly affect Reda Belahyane. Lazio had agreed to return him to Hellas Verona, but Maurizio Sarri now wants to keep the young Moroccan unless a new midfielder comes in.

Lazio have brought in Kenneth Taylor from Ajax and Polish teenager Adrian Przbyborek. Even so, Sarri has insisted the squad still lacks a proper replacement for Matteo Guendouzi, sold to Fenerbahce in the first week of January.
