Matt Targett joins Hull City on two-year deal | OneFootball

Hull City have announced the arrival of defender Matt Targett on an initial two-year deal.

The 30-year-old is free to join the club after leaving Newcastle United at the end of his contract and he has now committed to the Tigers until 2028 with the option of a further season.

Targett spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough where played 46 times for the club with his last game coming in the 1-0 Championship play-off final defeat to Hull at Wembley.

"I’m delighted to be here," the former Southampton and Aston Villa man said about his new move.

"It was during the England game on Saturday night that my agent rang me and said Hull City were interested.

"The next minute, I was on a phone call with the owner. He is very invested in the football club and speaks very passionately, so it didn’t take much convincing to join.

"Speaking to boys who have been here previously, they spoke very highly of the club, so it was a no-brainer.

"It’s going to be a massive challenge, but we can take huge confidence from what the likes of Sunderland and Leeds did last season."

During his time with Newcastle, Targett played 47 times in total – just one game more than his loan spell last season.
