Mauricio Isla, one of Chile’s most-capped, announces retirement at 38 | OneFootball

Mauricio Isla has retired at 38, bringing to an end the career of Chile’s fifth most-capped player and former Marseille right-back.

A free agent since the start of 2026, he confirmed the decision on Monday in a lengthy Instagram message. The player said in a post that he was ending his career.

Isla moved to Europe in 2008 with Udinese, then joined Juventus four years later, winning three Scudetti.

He spent 2015-2016 at Marseille, making 38 appearances, before a series of clubs across Europe and then South America.

Capped 144 times, he lifted the Copa América in 2015 and 2016. In his farewell note he thanked those who backed him, singled out a goal against Uruguay, and hoped to be remembered as the child who dared to dream and became a professional.
