Mauricio kept his counsel on his Palmeiras future after Paraguay’s eye-catching World Cup run, stressing his focus remains on playing for the club.
Paraguay made history by knocking out Germany in the second phase, then pushed title favourites France in the last 16. According to Globo.com, he attracted interest during the finals, with Atalanta the leading suitor and Palmeiras denying any official bid.
The midfielder said the tournament kept him away from his representatives and off social media, so he does not know what is true around his name. He added he would leave any talks to his agent and to Palmeiras, keeping his focus on helping the team. He spoke in the mixed zone at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
Palmeiras president Leila Pereira has reiterated she does not wish to lose key players. The board are expected to meet to decide only if a formal proposal is on the table.
Aged 25, Mauricio scored one of Paraguay’s three goals and was pivotal for Gustavo Alfaro’s side, linking counters and defending in the first line. He is under contract with Palmeiras until December 2028. He joined in 2024 from Internacional and has 105 appearances, 18 goals and 10 assists.
