Mauricio Pochettino praised Paris St Germain’s professionalism as they opened their defence of the Coupe de France with a 3-0 win over Feignies Aulnoye.

Lionel Messi was spared the trip to the fifth-tier opposition, but Les Parisiens eased through without him as first-half penalties from Kylian Mbappé and Mauro Icardi set them on their way to victory.

Mbappé scored a second after the break, to leave his manager pleased with the day’s work at the Stade du Hainaut in Valenciennes.

“I am happy that we have made it through to the next round, which is a good thing,” Pochettino said, per the PSG website.

“It was a very professional performance and we deserved it. We are happy because we have come here, we got the victory and there are no injuries.

“It’s a good feeling. And of course, the forwards made the difference. It’s the most important thing for a team. I hope that we continue to score goals.”

PSG’s reward for progessing is a tie against fourth-tier Vannes in the round of 32, to be played in early January.
