Birmingham City’s takeover is yet to be finalised and it has now been several months since talk first surfaced regarding the new potential ownership of the club.
Despite the continued uncertainty regarding the takeover situation at St Andrew’s, the Blues have managed to defy expectations with a rather positive start to the campaign.
As things stand, the Blues sit just three points outside of the play-off positions and will looking to continue climbing the Championship table as the season progresses.
It has almost been a year since talk regarding a potential takeover first surfaced, and whilst there has been some developments, it remains to be seen how long of a process it is expected to still be.
Birmingham Sports Holdings Ltd (BSHL) confirmed in July that Birmingham-based businessman, and Blues fan, Paul Richardson, and former Argentine footballer Maxi Lopez had seen an offer accepted for the sale of the club.
The approach put forward to BSHL was a two-step plan that was expected to take a couple of years to fully implement.

In July, Richardson spoke to Blues fans and provided an update on this situation, with the businessman telling Birmingham Live: “We exchanged contracts on Saturday after many months. We paid our deposit on Monday and now we’re here today to find out how the club works and do our DD (due diligence). We will have to wait for EFL approval which may take two or three weeks, and then we go to completion.”
Also involved in pursuit of the ownership of the Midlands club is former Watford owner Laurence Bassini.
Making a number of rather sizeable claims whilst on talkSPORT about his vision for the club, it remains to be seen if he is making much progress as he attempts to takeover the club.
Birmingham are currently being investigated by the EFL as they look to determine if the club was receiving funding from a “relevant person’.
A club can receive funding from external sources in these kind of situations but only if they are not deemed as relevant.
about the potential EFL breach, Richardson confirmed that his consortium has pumped funds into the club but said that he has followed guidance.
