After Jens Stage was ruled out until 2027 due to a hamstring injury, Werder Bremen suffered another injury blow on Tuesday as Justin Njinmah will now be on the sidelines for weeks. Meanwhile, Samuel Mbangula completed his move to Bologna in an initial loan deal.

The former Juventus winger returned to Serie A after only a season in Germany after his €10 million move. Bologna will have an option to buy at the end of the season as they see him as Jonathan Rowe’s replacement.

“Samuel (Mbangula) had a difficult first year with us. An opportunity has now arisen at short notice which is currently the best solution for everyone involved. We wish Samuel all the best for his season in Italy, and we will be following him closely,” said Bremen’s chief Peter Niemeyer on Mbangula’s move.

The Green and Whites will also be without Njinmah in the upcoming weeks as he suffered an injury after playing an hour in Sunday’s 4-1 defeat to Freiburg. Daniel Thioune’s side will be depleted at the start of the season as Romano Schmidt also left the club for Serie A side Frosinone.

Furthermore, their attempt to sign Badredine Bouanani in place of Mbangula faced strong competition with Strasbourg currently leading the race.
