Mbappé ordered to pay money to PSG!

After a long legal battle, Kylian Mbappé won a ruling a few months ago ordering Paris Saint-Germain to pay him a substantial sum and to publish that judgment on its website for several weeks. However, PSG also secured a small victory, reported by L’Equipe this Monday. It concerns compensation of 60,000 euros for the precautionary seizures of the Paris club’s accounts. Paris had managed to have them lifted and, on top of that, obtained this modest compensation. The 27-year-old Real Madrid and France national team striker was ordered to pay 60,000 euros by the Paris Court of Appeal.

“The club, for its part, is furious, believing it has more than enough financial means to cope in the event it were to be condemned. It believes the Mbappé camp requested these seizures only ‘for media purposes.’ PSG obtained their cancellation as early as May.

However, the judges dismissed the club’s claim for moral damages. PSG had argued that the precautionary seizures had “jeopardized the payment of salaries for the company’s 724 employees, the payment of numerous suppliers, the collection of tax obligations (...) and also caused a critical disruption of several departments, particularly those linked to finance, legal affairs, and human resources.” The club also considered that these same seizures had “raised fears of being unable to honor sporting debts, which would have created the risk of disciplinary sanctions from FIFA, potentially going as far as a transfer ban, even as the ‘transfer window’ was due to begin on June 1, 2025.” The judges also refused to grant PSG damages for image and reputational harm, for which the club had sought a symbolic 1 euro.”

It is a small victory on the financial side, but it is not insignificant all the same. In particular, because it somewhat challenges the idea from the Mbappé camp that they did everything right against an abusive PSG. Of course, his legal victory remains more striking and important. But this still matters, and we hope the matter can now be completely closed, without a new appeal or statements that would lead nowhere. It is probably a chapter no one wants to revisit.
