Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappé and his France teammates will defend their world title against Argentina on Sunday after easing past Morocco 2-0 in the World Cup semi-finals on Wednesday.

Argentina-France in the final! The world is all set for a clash of the titans in the showpiece final, where Kylian Mbappé and Les Bleus will fight to become the first nation to win back-to-back World Cups since Pele's Brazil in the late 50s-early 60s. And they will do so against an Argentina side with whom Mbappé's Paris Saint-Germain teammate Lionel Messi is also looking to make history...

In the thick of it

Although Mbappé didn't add to his five-goal tally (he sits level with Messi atop the tournament's Golden Boot chart), his blocked shot led to Théo Hernandez's early opener (05') and his daring foray into the box drew the attention away from former Nantes substitute Randal Kolo Muani, who tapped in his first-ever France goal at the far post after Mbappé's effort was parried (79'). Between the two strikes, Olivier Giroud hit the woodwork with a powerful shot (17') and Morocco defender Jawad El-Yamiq was within inches of scoring one of the all-time great World Cup goals when he cannoned an overhead kick off Hugo Lloris' upright (44').

Bitterwseet The final whistle was a bittersweet moment for close friends and clubmates Mbappé and Achraf Hakimi, but their embracing and swapping shirts after the match showed that friendship remained the order of the day.

PSG right-back Hakimi had an excellent tournament, helping Morocco to become the first African nation to reach the semi-finals in the quest for football's biggest prize, and he should take plenty of confidence back to France as the capital club look to stitch up another Ligue 1 Uber Eats title - and UEFA Champions League glory - in the second half of the season. >> Is there any stopping Kylian Mbappé?
