Vagner Love, formerly of Flamengo and Mbappé’s team-mate at Monaco in 2015/16, has urged Brazil to take Pedro to the World Cup after the striker’s form for Flamengo revived debate over a call-up.

“I would give Pedro an opportunity because of the form he is in. He is a natural centre-forward. Of course you have João Pedro, Matheus Cunha, who plays wide, Igor Thiago, who has emerged now, and Endrick. But as a number nine, I would take Pedro,” he told GE.

After scoring twice in a 4-0 win over Atlético-MG on Sunday 26, Pedro said he still dreams of making the tournament and would believe until the final list is named, but stressed his focus remains on giving his best for Flamengo.

The official Brazil squad announcement is on 18 May. Carlo Ancelotti begins preparations on 25 May, and the squad will travel to the United States on 1 June.

Pedro is Flamengo’s leading scorer in 2026, with 24 appearances, 15 goals and four assists, and has secured a regular starting role under Leonardo Jardim.

Flamengo visit Estudiantes of Argentina on Wednesday 29 at 21:30 Brasília time at Estádio Jorge Luis Hirschi, in the third round of the Libertadores.
