Former Blue Toni Duggan says City’s adaptability continues to shine as we made it five wins from five in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
Andrée Jeglertz’s side fought valiantly to complete a 4-2 comeback win over Arsenal at the Etihad on Sunday evening to see us stay at the league summit over the October international break.
A brace from Lauren Hemp and impressive goals from Kerstin Casparij and Bunny Shaw made for the perfect day out at the Etihad as Jeglertz’s side continues to go from strength to strength in the WSL as the only outfit to hold a 100% record.
And for former forward Duggan, who was alongside Steph Houghton during our Matchday Live show, she couldn’t help but applaud the team’s versatility and adaptability.
“It shows the confidence within the team,” said Duggan when asked for her thoughts on City’s victory.
“This team is so adaptable. I saw Casparij at left-back and I thought ‘I don’t think I’ve ever seen her play there!’.

“But putting in that performance, her first touch for the goal. [Iman] Beney putting in a shift for the team.
“I think that’s the difference between these two teams. Andree is getting it right with his team selection with players that are playing. It shows how strong our manager is and the strength in our team.”
Two of the Club’s most decorated players in Duggan and Houghton continued to praise the team and our boss in our post-match Matchday Live show.
The former England internationals were both part of City’s first-ever WSL title-winning squad in 2016.
They know what it takes to maintain the level the Blues are performing at across multiple campaigns.
A feat that is not easy and the team should be proud of.
“It’s fantastic in terms of getting the points on the board and coming back the way we did today,” added Houghton to Duggan’s praise for City.
“It shows the mentality the girls have shown for a number of months now under Andrée Jeglertz.
“Don’t get me wrong I don’t think we played at our best but to be able to come away beating Arsenal 4-2 with the quality of players they have in their squad, we should be very proud.
“Especially in the second half we showed more of what we are about.”
