Medhi Benatia to stay at OM until June after resignation U-turn | OneFootball

Medhi Benatia will remain as OM's director of football until June, owner Frank McCourt said in a statement.

McCourt was at the Stade Vélodrome on Saturday for the 2-2 draw with Strasbourg, where protest banners targeted him and president Pablo Longoria.

He asked Benatia to continue in the interests of Olympique de Marseille and to meet this season's sporting aims. Benatia has extended his notice to June and will oversee all sporting operations.

Longoria's role will shift to institutional responsibilities, keeping OM represented within French and European bodies.

Benatia had announced he was leaving, saying he could not ignore the current climate, spoke of growing dissatisfaction and a rupture, and stressed that in Marseille results are the only judge.

A new head coach will be announced soon and McCourt's ambition for the club remains intact. He is expected in Marseille on Tuesday.
