Sekhukhune Unite star picks his role model.

Medupi Thokolo talks about his great admiration and inspiration from Mothobi Mvala!
Since joining Sekhukhune United, the young defender has made a huge impact for the team in the 2025/26 season, having joined the team from Motsepe Foundation Championship side Casric Stars. He also deservedly won two Player of the Match awards this season with his new team.
While his childhood was filled with the spectacle of European football, Thokolo's defensive inspiration was found much closer to home. He revealed to FARPost that his ultimate role model is South African stalwart Mothobi Mvala, a player he feels mirrors his own style and approach to the game. This connection was forged in his youth, spent alongside his father, a devoted Mamelodi Sundowns fan, where countless hours were dedicated to watching the local club's matches. Yet, his admiration isn't confined to local pitches, as he holds European giant Virgil van Dijk in the highest regard.
With a measured perspective on his career, his ambition is sharply focused on a single milestone: "earning a call-up to the national team." He is deliberately cautious, explaining that "as a newcomer to the Betway Premiership," he prefers to avoid the weight of excessive expectations. His reasoning is rooted in a desire for mental clarity, fearing that unmet goals could disrupt his confidence and dim the positive mindset he brought to this new chapter.
