Memphis Depay watched Corinthians’ Copa do Brasil decider with Internacional from a Neo Química Arena box as contract renewal talks continued. According to Meu Timao, he is awaiting the club’s position to finalise an extension running to mid-2028.
The 32-year-old was filmed heading to a West Stand box with his entourage, pausing to sign a supporter’s shirt. He also offered a brief nod to a fan’s chant for Corinthians.
He landed in Brazil in the early hours of Tuesday, then underwent medical tests at Hospital Sírio-Libanês that day. On Wednesday morning he continued physical evaluations at CT Dr. Joaquim Grava, with no issues reported from the test battery.
A key sticking point remains a clause requiring full settlement of a R$ 42 million debt if any payment is delayed, with the agreement split into four instalments. The player’s camp is unwilling to drop that guarantee, while club president Osmar Stabile is against including it in a new deal.
Memphis has not played since 25 June, when he featured in the Netherlands’ 3-1 win over Tunisia in the World Cup group stage. After the Dutch were knocked out by Morocco in the round of 32, he went on holiday and stayed away from CT activities.
Corinthians initially expect to have their number 10 available for the Libertadores last 16. They face Rosario Central on 13 and 20 August, with the return leg at the Neo Química Arena.
In 2026 he has made 14 appearances for Corinthians, scoring one and assisting one. He missed about two months between March and May with a right thigh muscle problem.
