Meret: Napoli squad ‘very happy’ to have Allegri in charge | OneFootball

Alex Meret has spoken of the positive mood inside the Napoli camp under new head coach Massimiliano Allegri, insisting the squad are delighted to be working with him as the side prepare for the new campaign.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, the goalkeeper was speaking to Sky Sport from Napoli’s pre-season training camp in Castel di Sangro. Allegri arrived this summer to replace Antonio Conte, and Meret’s words suggest the transition has been a smooth one.

“Allegri makes us feel good, we’re working calmly,” he said. “We’re very happy that he’s our new coach, and we hope to give him great satisfaction on the pitch.”

Meret explains Allegri’s attention to detail at Napoli

The Italy international also offered an insight into the principles his coach is instilling on the training ground, where the emphasis has been on precision and the smallest margins.

“He places a lot of importance on the technical side, and gives great value to every gesture,” Meret said.

“He’s reminded us several times that a single gesture done well can change a match, but also a season, and it’s an aspect we’re working on a lot.”

The upbeat mood is welcome given a testing pre-season for Napoli, whose defensive ranks have been ravaged by injuries to Alessandro Buongiorno, Sam Beukema and Luca Marianucci, prompting the push to sign Benoît Badiashile.

For Meret himself, meanwhile, the settled atmosphere coincides with his growing status as first choice between the posts, a development that has opened the door to a possible exit for Vanja Milinković-Savić, who has attracted interest from Turkey.
