Santos are unlikely to meet Cuca’s call for reinforcements as finances tighten, with the board prioritising stability over the market. According to Globo.com, there are no short-term funds available despite understanding the coach’s frustration.
The club have paid the squad’s July CLT salary, but two months of image rights remain outstanding. The next instalment falls on the 20th and the expectation is the board will cover one month, leaving two months still owed.
Cuca’s request will not be met at this stage, just as Santos have slipped into the Campeonato Brasileiro relegation zone.
On Sunday, after a 2-0 defeat by Athletico at Vila Belmiro, the coach made a spontaneous plea for at least two signings.
To register newcomers, Santos must first lift a FIFA sanction tied to an unpaid debt to Monaco for Jean Lucas, valued at R$ 12 million. That remains outside current priorities as the club targets fresh funding, and the 2025 balance sheet shows total debt above R$ 1 billion, with R$ 470 million short term.
The marketing department is seeking new shirt sponsors, with up to five spaces available on the kit at this stage of the year.
