Messi has formalised a deal to become the new owner of Eldense, subject to approval from the Consejo Superior de Deportes. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the Argentine has moved to take control of the club.
The purchase executes an initial agreement reached last week between Messi's representatives and Carolina Holguín, the club's owner. A due diligence of Eldense's accounts continues in parallel and could last several weeks.
The process briefly came under scrutiny after former owner Pascual Pérez sought to embargo the shares over a debt put at about a million euros. Holguín said the claim did not jeopardise the sale.
She maintained the Eldense shares had been paid and that Pérez's dispute related to the club's ownership. She also said she had the financial capacity to cover any amount a judge might later determine.
With that legal challenge not halting the transaction, Messi's representatives have completed the purchase of the full shareholding. Meanwhile, the financial and economic review of the Vinalopó club continues.
Eldense claimed their first LaLiga Hypermotion win of the season on Sunday, beating Sporting de Gijón 1-0 at El Molinón. On social media, Messi liked the club’s post about the match on its official account.
