The two main Metz ultras groups, Gruppa Metz and Horda Frénétik, have urged supporters to stage a protest before Sunday’s Ligue 1 meeting with Brest, citing a lack of long-term ambition.

According to L'Équipe, the groups issued a joint statement on social media and want fans to gather in the city centre shortly before Metz-Brest at Saint-Symphorien, kick-off 17:15, on matchday 24.

In their message they said the same pattern repeats every season, arguing there is no ambitious long-term sporting plan to keep the club established in Ligue 1, and that fatigue among fans is at its height.

They described the demonstration as peaceful and as a first action.

Metz are bottom of Ligue 1 after taking only two points from their last 11 matches. Saturday’s 0-3 defeat at PSG left them four points behind Auxerre, who occupy the play-off spot, and 10 behind Paris FC, the first side outside the drop zone.

The club’s instability has exasperated supporters, and the team appears on course for what would be an eighth relegation to Ligue 2 this century.
