Mexico mark a historic World Cup participation milestone, with the 48-team finals in Mexico, the United States and Canada now set. According to Americayya.net, all qualifiers are complete and the field is confirmed.
Iraq were the final side to book their place, beating Bolivia 2-1 in Monterrey. That completes the line-up of nations chasing the trophy.
One of the biggest shocks was Italy’s exit, losing on penalties to Bosnia and missing a third straight finals, a first in their history.
Mexico qualified automatically as hosts. They impressed in two friendlies against Portugal and Belgium.
With the field set, the all-time appearances table has been updated, and Mexico sit in the top five. Brazil are the only nation to have reached every edition, 23 in total, from 1930 to 2026.
Germany follow on 21 World Cups. They have never been eliminated on sporting grounds, their two absences came after declining to play in 1930 and being excluded in 1950 because of the war.
Argentina are third with 19 appearances, having missed 1938, 1950, 1954 and 1970. Mexico now have 18 qualifications, absent in 1934, 1938, 1974, 1982 and 1990.
Two of Mexico’s absences were off the pitch, they did not travel in 1934 due to financial constraints and were suspended by FIFA in 1990. Italy complete the top five, having missed 1930, 1958, 2018, 2022 and now 2026, after previously sitting out only two editions up to 2014.
