MIAMI – The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Morocco 2025 continues with Concacaf nation Mexico facing the Netherlands in the Semifinals on Wednesday at the Olympic Stadium of Rabat in Rabat, Morocco.
Mexico will play for a ticket to the championship match, a stage it last reached at the 2018 edition, as it continues to chase its first trophy.
These two nations met in the Group Stage, where El Tricolor came out victorious with a late goal by Citlalli Reyes. The result began Mexico’s current four match unbeaten streak.
The pillar of the Mexican team in recent encounters has been goalkeeper Valentina Murrieta, who displayed a great performance with two penalty stops in regular time, and another in the penalty shootout, against Italy in the Quarterfinals.
Murrieta is also the goalkeeper with the highest number of goals prevented in the last four editions of the U-17 WWC, conceding only two goals in the 2025 edition.
The Netherlands has accumulated consecutive victories in the Knockout Round via the penalty shootout, eliminating the United States and France in the process.
Stats
Mexico reaches the semifinal stage of the current FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup with their second-highest number of games played and the lowest number of goals conceded in a single edition (5 Games played – 2 goals conceded). This surpasses their performance in 2016, where they conceded only four goals in four games.
● Mexico will face the Netherlands again after beating them 1-0 in the second group stage match. They will be looking for consecutive wins against the same opponent for the second time in the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, following wins against New Zealand in 2012 (1-0) and 2016 (5-0).
● Valeria Alvarado is the only Mexican player with 2+ assists in a single edition of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, at least since 2018. She made one against Paraguay and another against the Netherlands after just one chance created in each game: she is the second player to generate just one chance and convert it into an assist in two different games in the current competition.
