Mexico’s Marcelo Flores has joined Real Oviedo on loan for the 2022/2023 season from Arsenal.
The 12-month loan deal to the Spanish Segunda Division side reportedly does not include an option to buy, keeping him at the English club in the long run.
Marcelo Flores gained international interest during the transfer window, after impressing last season with the Arsenal Under-21 and Under-23 sides. He managed five goals in 12 games, also leading him to three appearances for the Mexican national team.
Sides from US and Mexico were looking to bring on the young prospect for the season, before he chose to settle down with Real Oviedo.
"Just want to thank you for all the amazing support you’ve been sending my way recently. Ready for the new challenge with Real Oviedo, and can’t wait to share this journey with you. A hug," he posted to social media.
He is not the first Mexican to arrive at the Spanish side this summer, joining Pachuca’s Daniel Aceves. But there is no coincidence in the sudden arrival of Mexicans at Real Oviedo. Earlier this year, Mexican organization, Grupo Pachuca, bought into the team to become the majority shareholder.
Liga MX and El Tri players will join the club.
