A humbling start to the season has seen onlookers doubt Michael Carrick’s abilities

There has been significant movement overnight in the Premier League manager sack race, following two humbling defeats over the weekend.

Current favourite Alvaro Arbeola remains in pole position despite Fulham earning a spirited point away at Liverpool on Saturday, which could have been all three.

But Frank Lampard is the new second favourite after a miserable 5-0 home defeat to Brighton, which saw striker Taiwo Awoniyi shown a straight red card early in the second half.

The result leaves Coventry rooted to the bottom of the table with zero points after four straight defeats, and with question marks over Lampard's suitability for Premier League management after a dismal past track record in the top flight.

Lampard has seen his odds slashed from 14/1 into 10/3, and coming up behind him is Michael Carrick, whose Manchester United side lost at home to 10-man rivals Man City in deeply controversial circumstances.

Erling Haaland scored the only goal, after Phil Foden's first-half red card, but the goal should not have stood due to Enzo Fernandez attacking the ball from an offside position. The decision has seen been the subject of an apology from referee body Pro Ref to Man Utd.

Carrick's odds on being the next manager sacked have been cut from 17/2 into 11/2, to sit just ahead of Roberto De Zerbi, who has overseen a winless - and goalless- start to the season at Tottenham.
