Michael has left Flamengo after his contract was terminated on Friday morning, leaving the 29-year-old forward a free agent. The deal had been due to run until the end of 2028.

The club said in a statement that the agreement was reached by mutual consent on 30 January, and it thanked Michael for his professionalism while wishing him success.

He returned in August 2024 but had fallen out of Filipe Luís’s plans. He ends his second spell with 46 appearances, six goals and five assists.

To conclude the exit, both parties settled on a middle-ground figure for sums owed, with flexibility on both sides. His high salary hindered talks with other clubs, for example Santos.

He has decided not to remain in Brazil and will return to Saudi Arabia to determine his next move. The window there closes next Monday, and three clubs have shown interest, Al Ula, Al Shabab and Al Taawon.

Michael’s best run under Filipe Luís came late in 2024, when he broke into the starting line-up and impressed, including the win over Inter at the Maracanã in the Campeonato Brasileiro. Across two spells he made 151 appearances, scoring 29 goals with 19 assists.
