Michele Kang, the American president of OL Lyonnes who has also begun overseeing OL in recent months, has been honoured by the International Olympic Committee. She received its European Champions of Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion trophy for her impact on elite women’s sport.
According to Le Progres, the award was presented on Monday at the French National Olympic and Sports Committee, where president Amélie Oudéa-Castéra supported her candidacy.
The distinction recognises sustained work to advance gender equality, diversity and inclusion in and through sport, spanning performance, visibility and economic value.
The billionaire Michele Kang presides over OL Lyonnes, Washington Spirit and London City Lionesses within Kynisca Sports International, the first global multi-club organisation dedicated exclusively to women’s football.
She has made several donations to the American federations of football and rugby sevens, and has released funds to support medical research and the health of elite female athletes.
