Micky van de Ven hails Tottenham’s ‘new ambition’ after summer spending spree – and is confident of major improvement | OneFootball

Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven is confident that their upcoming Premier League campaign will be very different from the last one.

Spurs confirmed their Premier League safety on the final day of last season, finishing 17th.

The club have backed boss Roberto De Zerbi, who was appointed with seven games remaining of last season, in the transfer market this summer by signing Sandro Tonali for £100m, Mateus Fernandes for £85m, Jan Paul van Hecke for £52m, and Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson and Martin Dubravka on free transfers.

And van de Ven is confident that things are moving in the right direction.

“It’s really good that you can see the club has made some changes,” van de Ven told Football.London at the launch of the 2026 Sydney Super Cup.

“They have brought a really good new manager, in my opinion, and some really good new signings. You can see the club has new ambition. It’s something that’s really important for players that have been there for a long time.

“Some really good signings for us. Unbelievable players that can bring a lot to our team.”

The Dutch defender also says he is very excited by the brand of football De Zerbi is trying to instil.

“It’s going to be different compared to the former manager we had last season,” he said. “It’s going to be more with the ball, more playing football.

“I think it’s going to be more enjoyable for people to watch, playing offensive football.

“We started to play a lot with the ball, because he loves us to be on the ball, he loves to play the football he wants to play, and that’s also something I really enjoy.

“Because I like being on the ball, instead of running behind the ball the whole time. He brings a lot of good energy and from pre-season, we have really got the time now to bring his football into the team. That’s really enjoyable.”
