Middlesbrough have taken an interest in Manchester United youngster Toby Collyer

West Brom transfer target Toby Collyer is also attracting interest from rivals Middlesbrough.

According to journalist Dominic Shaw, the midfielder has admirers at the Riverside amid speculation over his future with Manchester United.

The 22-year-old had two stints on loan last season, initially joining the Baggies before moving to Hull City in the second half of the campaign.

He made a total of 17 appearances in the Championship, including four starts, contributing one assist.

Injuries disrupted his time at the Hawthorns, which led to him ultimately being recalled by the Red Devils.

But he now does not have a place in Michael Carrick’s first team plans at Old Trafford, leading to the possibility that he departs permanently before the market closes on Tuesday.

It’s believed that Middlesbrough are monitoring the situation surrounding Collyer’s future, as they have an interest in his services.

However, it’s understood that he will not be joining the Teesside outfit this summer, with just a few days left in the market.

It’s been claimed that Hull City are optimistic that £3 million will be enough to seal a deal for Collyer, with the Tigers also interested in bringing him back to the MKM Stadium.

It remains to be seen whether an agreement can be reached for the midfielder before the market closes on Tuesday, with West Brom also interested.

But Collyer is into the final year of his current contract, meaning this will be Man United’s last opportunity to cash in on the player, otherwise they risk losing him for nothing in 2027.

Hull earned promotion to the Premier League last season, winning the play-offs under Sergej Jakirovic, which could give them the edge in the race for his signature.

The Tigers won 2-0 against Carrick’s side in their opening league game, and Collyer was not involved.

Middlesbrough fans aren’t too enthusiastic regarding the prospect of Collyer moving to the Riverside, suggesting the team needs to be strengthened in other areas.

Supporters are underwhelmed by the possibility of securing the 22-year-old from Man United on a permanent basis.

However, some fans believe that he is what’s needed, and that it’s a move that would make sense for Kim Hellberg’s side.

Middlesbrough have until 1 September to complete any remaining deals before the market closes for the rest of the calendar year.

It’s not surprising that Middlesbrough have an interest in Collyer, as he is someone that has the potential to become a useful part of Hellberg’s side.

However, the combination of injuries and other signings made by Boro this summer means he isn’t someone they need right now.

Losing Hayden Hackney was obviously a blow, but they signed Sebastian Berhalter and Myles Peart-Harris, so have options in that area now.

If Collyer doesn’t make the move away from Old Trafford before the market closes, then perhaps this is one that Middlesbrough can revisit in January.
