Toby Collyer has attracted interest from both of his former loan sides

West Bromwich Albion are reportedly facing a threat from Hull City as both eye a permanent deal for Manchester United's Toby Collyer.

That is according to Hull Live, with the Red Devils midfielder spending one half of last season on loan with the Baggies and the Tigers respectively, albeit both clubs endured remarkably contrasting fortunes during the 2025/26 campaign.

Indeed, West Brom were able to stave off the threat of relegation after a major upsurge in form under James Morrison, which has also continued into this season with competitive victories over Norwich City and Burnley.

Hull, meanwhile, caused a major shock by winning the Championship play-off final in May under Sergej Jakirovic, and marked their first Premier League game in over nine years against Collyer's current employers with a 2-0 success at the MKM Stadium on Saturday lunchtime.

There is now just one week to go until the transfer window closes for business until New Year's Day, meaning time isn't exactly on the side of any club to conclude much-needed deals to help pack out their squads.

However, it could prove frustrating for Morrison if the top-flight newcomers were able to pip Albion to this particular transfer.

Indeed, West Brom have already been one of the Championship's most active clubs in this summer's transfer market, acquiring as many as seven new players to-date.

This includes midfield additions in the form of Felix Horn Myhre and Rabby Nzingoula from SK Brann and RC Strasbourg respectively - the latter of which was confirmed shortly after the Baggies' interest was exclusively revealed by Football League World.

However, Morrison has also lost the services of former captain, Alex Mowatt, who joined Midlands rivals, Derby County, last week, before interest resurfaced in the aforementioned Collyer.

The 22-year-old midfielder made 12 appearances at The Hawthorns between August and November 2025, before sustaining a calf injury against Birmingham City.

Despite those injury woes continuing at Hull, it was reported last week that the Black Country side were eyeing a permanent deal, although Hull Live's report states that the Tigers could seal a permanent deal themselves between now and the 11PM deadline on September 1st, as they are monitoring Collyer's situation at Old Trafford.

Prior to his unfortunate spell in the Championship last season, Collyer remained very highly-rated within the confines of the Old Trafford dressing room after being handed a breakthrough from the likes of former Red Devils boss, Ruben Amorim.

The Worthing-born midfielder has made 13 appearances in all competitions for the 20-time champions so far, perhaps with the standout of those being a 17-minute cameo against Rangers in the UEFA Europa League in January 2025, where he was also hailed by United captain, Bruno Fernandes.

"He's a really good kid who wants to learn. He's eager to listen and has big, big qualities. He's aggressive off and on the ball, he's class in tight spaces, and he's just going to get better," said the Portuguese.

At this stage of Collyer's career, it is intriguing to assess where his long-term development could be best served, especially after limited gametime within the past 12 months.

Naturally, remaining a Premier League player could be a huge lure for Hull, although they have also been linked with other midfield targets, such as Paris Saint-Germain's Renato Sanches.

Therefore, with Morrison previously on Ryan Mason's coaching staff during Collyer's brief spell in B71, the Scot will be aware of what the midfielder could bring to his own midfield in the Championship if he can stay injury-free.
