Middlesbrough are open to letting Sammy Silvera leave the club in the January transfer window.
Middlesbrough are open to letting Sammy Silvera leave the club in the January transfer window as he struggles to get near the XI under Kim Hellberg.
The Australian winger joined Boro in 2023, and he featured regularly in his first campaign under the guidance of Michael Carrick.
However, things have been more difficult for Silvera on Teesside in recent years, and he spent the previous season on loan at Portsmouth and Blackpool, where he struggled to make a positive impact.

Rob Edwards’ arrival at the Riverside Stadium in the summer gave Silvera a chance of a fresh start, and it was one that he took, with the Australian international playing as a wing-back as part of the setup of the ex-Luton chief.
Yet, with Edwards leaving for Wolves, a lot has changed at Boro, with Hellberg joining the club and he has switched the formation.
As a result, Silvera has struggled for game time, as he has made just two substitute appearances under the Swedish head coach, whilst he failed to make the match day squad for the Boxing Day draw against Blackburn.
So, it appears Silvera is way down the pecking order, and Teesside Live has revealed that an exit could be on the cards for the 25-year-old in the New Year.
Firstly, with his contract expiring in the summer, Middlesbrough know they are not in a strong negotiation position, as this could be the last opportunity to get a fee for the former Central Coast Mariners man.
Furthermore, the update explains that Silvera will be keen on leaving Boro as he looks to nail down a place in Australia’s squad for the World Cup. The attacker is by no means a guaranteed starter for the Socceroos, but he will hope to be on the plane to America.
Following on from that, it’s fair to say that it would be no surprise at all if Silvera did secure a move away in the New Year, as it’s something that would benefit all parties.

Realistically, he has no future at Boro, with Hellberg clearly believing he has better options at his disposal, and Silvera’s contract situation means that he is unlikely to be offered fresh terms.
So, if Boro can get a fee for the player in January, it would make a lot of sense for them from a financial and sporting perspective.
As for the player, Silvera will have dreams of playing for Australia at the World Cup, and he knows how important it is that he is getting regular game time for that to happen.
