Liverpool are in the market for a new midfielder in the coming transfer windows.
With the futures of almost all of the Reds’ currently midfielders questionable, the club may end up investing in multiple options in one window, much like they did in the 2023-24 season.
Several players are on Liverpool’s shortlist, with the club looking to build on the progress they made last summer.
A lot can change between now and the summer however, and it looks like Arne Slot’s side might not even get the opportunity to move for one of their targets, with the player set to sign a new deal and end any transfer speculation.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Juventus midfielder Khephren Thuram is set to sign a new deal in Turin, ending Liverpool’s pursuit before it had even really taken off.

Thuram has been on the Reds’ radar for a long time, and was a target before he made the move to Italy.
The report states that Thuram was once again a target for Slot’s side ahead of the summer window, but that the Frenchman has chosen to reaffirm his commitment to Juve and will sign a new contract before the season is over.
The 24-year-old has become a mainstay in Turin since his arrival, and is widely regarded as one of the top midfielders in Serie A.
Thuram signing a new deal is no doubt a blow to Liverpool, and it will narrow their options for the summer, but the Frenchman wasn’t believed to be top of the Reds' list and the club’s rebuild looks set to continue as planned.
Kees Smit, Adam Wharton, Elliott Anderson and Warren Zaire-Emery are just some of the names that make up Liverpool’s midfield shortlist, and sales will likely dictate how many bodies the club add to the midfield.
