Midfielder casts fresh doubt over future at Corinthians

Revealed in the Corinthians youth academy, where he won the Copinha in 2016 with a goal in the final, and in his second stint at the club as a professional (2017-2018 and 2022-2025), midfielder Maycon has a loan contract with Shakhtar Donetsk, Ukraine, which ends with the Alvinegro in December. Since returning to the club, he has been dealing with frequent physical issues and is now having more continuity.

The number 7, who has been frequently used by coach Dorival Júnior among the starters, even received an offer from Al-Nasr, United Arab Emirates, in the last transfer window. In an exclusive interview with Trivela, the midfielder left his future at the club open and highlighted his relationship with the current Corinthians coach.

“I left it very open for the club to feel free if they thought it necessary for me to leave to open another spot, bring another player. The club could have its ideas about the athlete Maycon. So, I left the club very calm that I would leave if they wanted. But, also if they wanted, I would stay and continue my work in the same way. Because I know the confidence Dorival has in me,” he started.

He continued: “I left it very open to the club, which preferred to keep me. There was a possibility of leaving, but I wouldn't be sad if I stayed, as I showed on the field that I was willing to stay. The most important thing is the club wanting me to stay, the coach's confidence, and me showing the club that I wanted to stay. I accepted this stay as something positive.”

Finally, the midfielder revealed that he has not yet talked to the club about a possible contract renewal and emphasized that if the Alvinegro wants him to stay, he is open to dialogue.

“I still don't know my desire. But I can't close the doors to Corinthians in any way. As long as I see that I am important for some kind of vision that the board and the coach have, I can stay. I will never close the doors to the club, but I know that one day it will end. I don't know if it will be this year, next year, or the following. We haven't had conversations yet, but I wanted to make it clear that I am open to talking if it is the club's wish, but I know that one day it will end.”

“And I have to work on my mind so that when this happens, it is in the best possible way. We haven't had conversations yet, and I also think it's not the moment. The club has other focuses, players closer to the end of their contracts, key players for it, and these are things that remain in our internal conversations”, he concluded.

In total, Maycon has 233 games (177 as a starter) with the Corinthians jersey, with 112 wins, 65 draws, and 56 losses – a 57.3% success rate. Additionally, he scored 16 goals and won the following titles: Brazilian Championship (2017) and Paulistão (2017, 2018, and 2025).

Other players have contracts ending in December. They are: left-back Fabrizio Angileri and forwards Ángel Romero and Talles Magno, who is on loan from New York City, USA.
